Buchanan County U.S. Route 59 northbound closure to begin Sept. 30
Route 59 and Alabama Street intersection improvement project in St. Joseph
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Aminos Brothers Co., Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will move to the next phase of construction on the intersection improvement project at U.S. Route 59 and Routes 752 and U (Alabama Street) in St. Joseph on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
During this phase, crews will begin work on U.S. Route 59 from Ohio Street to Alabama Street to stabilize the subgrade (the ground beneath the roadway), install turn lanes, pave driveways and business entrances, and pave the roadway. They will also continue work off the roadway at the new alignment of Route U.
Traffic Impacts:
- Northbound U.S. Route 59 will be CLOSED between Ohio and Alabama Streets. Motorists will need to follow the signed detour using Route 752 to King Hill Avenue.
- Southbound U.S. Route 59 will be reduced to one lane between Ohio and Alabama streets. An 11-foot width restriction will be in place.
This phase is scheduled to be completed by mid-December 2026, before the project is paused for winter. This project has faced numerous delays due to utilities and necessary subgrade stabilization work and is now scheduled for completion by September 2027.
