Six Boone, Cole, and Moniteau county bridges scheduled for painting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A project to apply a protective coating to the supporting structure of six bridges across Boone, Cole, and Moniteau counties is set to begin next week. This work will include some daytime and night single-lane closures, however most work will be completed with little impact to traffic.

On Nov. 4, 2026, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to begin applying a protective coating to the Wagon Trail Road bridge over U.S. Route 63 just north of Columbia. Single lane closures on both U.S. 63 and Wagon Trail Road are anticipated for roughly two weeks, first during the day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Nov. 4-9), then overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Nov. 9-16).

After completing work on the Wagon Trail Road bridge over U.S. 63, crews plan to paint the remaining bridges in the following order:

  • U.S. 63 bridges over Boone County Route B (Paris Road) in Columbia – projected to start in late November or early December.
  • Missouri Route 179 over Moniteau Creek in Moniteau County – projected to start in early- to mid-January.
  • Moniteau County Route U over Howard Creek – projected to start in early February.
  • Westbound U.S. Route 54 over the Neighorn Branch in Cole County – projected to start in late February.
