Prison Escapee and Tennessee Most Wanted Fugitive Captured

The search for escaped inmate Jacob Allen Morley ended Tuesday morning with his capture in Missouri following a multi-state investigation involving local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Earlier Tuesday, investigators received a tip that Morley was believed to have been hiding in a shed at a hunting camp in the Marion, Illinois area. Authorities also learned that a truck had been stolen from the property.

They put the truck’s license plate information into the available Automatic License Plate Reader databases which showed the truck had traveled westbound on Interstate 70 between St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, approximately 340 miles from Marion, Illinois. The multiple ALPR hits proved critical, supplying information that allowed investigators to quickly identify Morley’s recent movements and coordinate a law enforcement response.

Missouri authorities located the vehicle and began tracking its movements, following it into a less populated area. At approximately 11:34 a.m., Morley was taken into custody without incident near Norborne, Missouri.

Following Morley’s arrest, authorities recovered three firearms that had previously been reported stolen from inside the vehicle.

The strong partnership and information-sharing between the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU), housed within the Tennessee Fusion Center, the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC), and the Illinois Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center (STIC) played a crucial role in tracking Morley’s movements and ultimately bringing the search to a safe conclusion.
